Autonomous truck, added or employed: what differentiation and benefits

Caminhoneiro autônomo, agregado ou empregado

Truckers’ work can be performed from different work regimes, either as a self-employed, aggregate, or employee. Each of these modalities has its advantages and disadvantages, so the choice will depend on what the professional wants and how the contracting company prefers to work.

Autonomous truck driver

The autonomous truck driver owns his truck and his own business. Therefore, he has a greater degree of autonomy and is free to choose which freight to take and the route he will follow. Generally, this professional earns more money than aggregate and registered drivers but needs to take responsibility for managing his business and maintaining his truck.

The autonomous work regime depends on the supply of cargo and implies more responsibilities for the truck driver in his work since he needs to take care of his financial management and the closing of cargo contracts alone. The big risk is having to stand still for a long time, without getting the freight to fulfill.

Also, the autonomous professional needs to be responsible for the maintenance of the truck, which involves changing oil, tires, fuel, tolls, overhauls, insurance, among other expenses. He also needs to pay for Social Security payments and have a financial reserve, since he does not have the benefits brought by employment, such as fixed salary, health plans, insurance, and aid.

Therefore, this professional needs to have an entrepreneurial spirit and be very disciplined and organized to plan your income and expenses very well.

Aggregate trucker

The aggregate regime is the fastest-growing type of work in the area of transport. In it, the responsibilities involved in the work are divided between the driver and the contracting company. The professional chooses to retain his freight services to a company or carrier, however, without having an employment relationship.

Although the aggregate driver owns the vehicle itself, he renders his services as an outsourced to some company, under the commitment to meet the work demands involved. In addition, he usually has to comply with the schedules and regulations of the contracting company.

This professional usually needs to assume the maintenance costs of his truck, the payments for Social Security, and the responsibility with the cargo. In return, he has benefits such as having a guaranteed job, without having to look for other freight.

Generally, when closing the agreement with the company, the person responsible for the contract already estimates the number of services that will be offered, on average, and the amounts to be paid.

The guarantee of having certain charges makes him more confident in having good earnings and a more or less fixed income every month. In addition, the aggregate truck driver can carry out private freight to increase his profits.

Registered employee

The registered driver works with the truck of the contracting company and has an employment relationship with it. Therefore, he has his workday organized by the company and must attend to his workflows and obey his rules.

On the other hand, this professional is entitled to receive all the benefits offered by the company and provided by law for the category, such as fixed salary, health plans, insurance, and assistance. He has his income guaranteed at the end of the month and does not have to worry about getting freight to do.

Another advantage of working registered is that the driver does not need to have his own truck and is free of costs with vehicle maintenance, fees, taxes, and with the payment of Social Security. However, although this professional has more guarantees, his earnings are usually lower than those obtained in other work regimes.

As we have seen, each of these types of work has its pros and cons. It all depends on your professional goals, your financial availability to invest in the profession, and the autonomy you prefer to have.

Those who have their own truck and like the freedom to work can be an autonomous truck driver; who owns a truck, but wants more security, can become an aggregate; and if you don’t have a truck, you can become a registered driver and have more professional guarantees, albeit with a lower income.
