Some precautions are critical to ensuring the efficiency, safety and standards of your lashing equipment. Here are the main ones.

1.    Hook model

The hooks have different models, with different configurations. Therefore, you must pay attention to which is the most suitable model for each use. The Robustec lashing slings  line has models with hooks in the “J”, claw, flat, “Moto”, triangle, beta and swivel shapes, available with or without ratchet.

2.    Thickness

Hook thickness is a very important factor, as it determines its strength. In the 3-ton model, Robustec uses a hook with a thickness of 9.30 mm in diameter. On the other hand, some competing products measure only 8.10mm and are not subjected to adequate heat treatment.

3.    Dimensioning and geometry

An important detail to keep in mind is that the hook should not have an opening at the anchor point, as this can compromise its capacity and may break.

4.    Label

Every lashing kit must contain a label with information on the Working Load Limit (WLL), the Safety Factor, the manufacture date, the length, the recommendations for use (back) and the related technical standard.

A detail that few people know is that the label has a black box or internal part that is intended to preserve this important information.

Since the beginning of 2017, load lashing ropes were prohibited by resolution 552 of the National Transit Council (Contran). The purpose of the measure is to improve security requirements.

Another Contran measure, resolution 588, prohibits the use of fixing hooks attached directly to the wooden beam of the car bodies. Chassis and cross beams should be metal for safety. The recommended metal fastener should have three screws – one vertical and two horizontals – so that its base has more support.

According to the standard, slings, chains, steel cables with a total tensile strength of at least twice the weight of the load must be used. Additionally, equipment such as grab bars, meshes rails, and spacers can be used as additional safety devices.

This equipment is also in accordance with the Regulatory Norm NR-11, of the Ministry of Labor, which establishes safety standards for the transport, handling, storage and handling of materials.

Another important regulation is the NR-12, standard, which deals with the safety of workers when using machines and equipment. It requires complete information on the entire life cycle of machinery and equipment, including transport, installation, use, maintenance and disposal at the end of its useful life.
